Wonju

Wonju became UNESCO City of Literature in 2019. Wonju has around 355,000 citizens and the population is ever increasing. It is the largest and the highly vibrant city of Gangwon-do province, over 45% Wonju inhabitants are aged under 40. Wonju is also a Culture City designated by Korean central government. As the center of culture in Gangwon-do province, Wonju aspires to become a city for sustainable development using not only culture and creativity, but also local tangible, intangible cultural assets and heritage.
